Retirees
In 1994 the retirees of the Batavia Business
and Professional Women's Club began meeting for lunch once a month
during the months of April through November. No luncheons were scheduled
during periods when winter weather might interfere with travel.

Anne Hersee's home in August 2003 |
The first couple of years the group met at several
different restaurants in the city of Batavia. Several luncheons
were held at the Sheraton Inn, later known as Holiday Inn. One summer
the group went to Tillman's Village Inn in Childs. For 3 years,
in July the group met at the home of Helen Krantz for a picnic in
the little house ( known and the Doll House) behind her home. The
group was well served at the Hamilton House, the restaurant at Terry
Hills Golf Course and had several luncheons there. They later moved
to "The Place" now known as Chardonnay's on Main Street
in Batavia. The retirees began having lunch at this location in
2000 and decided to make it the location for monthly luncheons.
A separate room was available where we could be served from the
restaurant menu. Recent meeting have been held at Joe Sundae's in
Attica. Up to 25 people attended these luncheons.
Helen Krantz and Betty Leslie assumed responsibility
for meeting arrangements. Remembrance cards were passed around the
group, signed and sent to shut in members and to those who had moved
out of town. Dolly DiFillipo conducted a 50/50 raffle each month
to raise funds to help pay for cards and postage.
In August 2001 we celebrated Happy Birthday to
all. Helen and Betty continued to do the planning and host the events.
Dolly continued to do a 50/50 raffle to provide some funds for miscellaneous
expenses. A handout of inspirational or entertaining information
was prepared for each meeting. Helen Krantz and Anne Hersee prepared
these selections.
The group continues to meet the second Tuesday
of each month for lunch at various restaurants in the area. The
purpose continues to be friendship and fellowship. Helen has had
some health problems that keep her at home so as of July 2003 she
is no longer able to attend.
Betty Leslie brings remembrance cards to each
meeting for participants to sign. These are mailed to retirees who
cannot any longer attend the monthly lunches.
The retirees group continues to serve as our yearly planning committee for the September evening meeting of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Ruth Newcomb celebrates her 100th birthday.

On August 8, 2006 a group of the Batavia Business and Professional Women’s Club helped celebrate the 100th birthday of Ruth Newcomb. The party has held at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility. Guests included members of the Batavia First United Methodist Church. Punch and cake were served and a wonderful time was had by all. It was fascinating to listen to Ruth recall events that had happened in her life. She was a former secretary of the BPW and has been a member of the group since 1941.
